Emerson 400 "Patriot" Catalin Radio, Restoration and Repair

Results of Radio Restorations 

This red Emerson 400 "Patriot" Catalin radio came to us with a cabinet broken (See last Picture). Most Catalin collectors would conder it a lost cause and sell it for the value of the Catalin material. Thankfully, this collector decided to send it to us for a complete cosmetic restoration and repair. We accepted this project with high expection of a great result.

The cabinet was dry fitted and we were happy to find all of the crack margins lined up. We tacked the cracks in place and then sealed them with 2-part epoxy.  Next we worked on the cabinet contours and re-shapped any areas that were not symmetrical.

Some details about this restoration:

1. The handle and star knobs trim are reproductions.
2. The degraded grille was cosmetically repaired.
3. The interior top of the cabinet was reinforced to strengthen the cabinet structure.
4. The chassis was cleaned and polished.
5. The finish consists of X1 primer, X2 color coats and 2X clear gloss.
6. Finish left to hard cure for 5-6 weeks and then it will be lightly  polished.
