Cord 'Zephyr' Mirror Radio Detailed Specifications

History of Radio-

The Cord Radio brand was owned by W. Ray Millette, who was a businessman involved in the radio and electronics industry during the 1930s and 1940s. The radios were manufactured by Magnavox, but they were sold under the Cord name,

Millette's company produced several models of Cord-branded radios, including the famous Cord "Zephyr" Mirror Radio, which featured sleek Art Deco styling and mirrored front panels in various colors.

The Cord "Zephyr" Mirror Radio was manufactured in the late 1930s. It is an Art Deco-style tube radio produced by the Magnavox Company under the "Cord" radio brand. The radio is well known for its striking mirrored/Catalin front panel and streamlined design, which reflected the automotive and industrial aesthetics of the era.

Cord 'Zephyr' Mirror Radio Design Inspired by 1935-36 Cord 810 and 812 Automobile

The Cord "Zephyr" Mirror Radio was inspired by the streamlined, Art Deco designs of the Cord automobiles, particularly the Cord 810 and 812 series designed by Gordon Buehrig in the mid-1930s. These luxury cars were known for their sleek, futuristic styling, hidden headlights, and smooth, aerodynamic lines. However this is no evidence that Gordon Buehrig, himself designed the radio.

Morris Weincord of Chicago, Illinois, designed the Cord 'Zephyr' Tube mirror radio. In 1936, he created radio cabinets for the Cord Radio Company, and this radio’s design was patented.
