Cabinet Heat Shield
During the period of the 1930s-1945, most of the Catalin radios were made with asbestos heat shields to protect the Catalin cabinet from discoloring and tube burns. Over the years, these heat shields were removed for health reasons but never replaced.
Radio cabinet made with Catalin are highly susceptible to direct and radiant heat build up in the cabinet interior. Catalin cabinets are at risk of heat damage from direct heat (From a tube) of 160+ degrees F and radiant heat exceeding 250-450 degrees F.
This aluminized heat shield is rates as follows:
Product Maximum Heat Protection when placed at 0.75"(20mm) separation.
- Direct Contact Maximum: 672°F (500°C)
- Radiant Heat Maximum 1,200°F (900°C)
This heat shield rating is higher than the risk level, but this additional protection accounts for the added risk of less separation between the heat source and the cabinet surface.
Heat Shield Size: Up to 9" X 5".
